Paldi Heritage Trip 2022

On May 30th, 2022, GenConnect took about 70 seniors and youth to Vancouver Island. We visited Paldi, a small town near Duncan, known for its rich history. The participants learned about the town's past and enjoyed langar together, which everyone helped to prepare and share. This trip helped bring people of different ages together and gave them a chance to appreciate and celebrate cultural traditions. Paldi

Paldi is a small historic community near Duncan on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. It was founded in the early 20th century by Sikh immigrants, led by Mayo Singh, who were drawn to the area's lumber industry. The town is known for its multicultural heritage and is notable for having one of the earliest Sikh temples in North America. Though its population has dwindled over time, Paldi remains a symbol of early South Asian immigration and multiculturalism in Canada.
