School Out Summer Camp

Welcome to our Schools Out Summer Camp Page. Here you can learn about how GenConnect keeps 6-12 year olds engaged in learning through the summer by leveraging culture, language, and intergenerational connection. We've hosted two, and plan to host annually depending on funding availability.

Welcome to our Schools Out Summer Camp Page, where we kept our communities kids creative juices flowing during the summer.

The "Schools Out Summer Camp 2024" was a vibrant two-week experience focused on immersing children in Punjabi language and culture. On the first day, the kids planted lettuce, introducing them to the basics of gardening and agriculture. Throughout the camp, children participated in fun and educational activities such as kite building, learning Punjabi Gurmukhi script, numbers, words, and phrases.

A highlight of the camp was a field trip to a local farm, where the children engaged in berry picking and participated in a general discussion about how farms operate, helping them understand the agricultural practices that are vital to Punjab. Another trip to the beach provided further opportunities for the children to practice their Punjabi vocabulary while enjoying the outdoors. These diverse activities created an enriching environment where the campers deepened their appreciation for Punjabi culture and language in a hands-on, engaging way.
